| David O'Brien believed that he could make a difference in the fight against world hunger. In his 29 years of life he did. After David suddenly passed away in India, in September of 1998, a number of his friends, relatives and people whose lives he touched chose to keep his memory and his beliefs alive by creating David's Dinner. |

"We may not fill your stomach, we hope to fill your heart."
Daily events and educational programs take place in order to continue the work David was so passionate about. The poem below was written by Emily Kingston, a third grader at St. Christopher's School in Buffalo, N.Y. She wrote this poem after the school children began to study the problem of famine. The students decided to police themselves in the cafeteria to try to limit the amount of wasted food each day. Emily's touching words remind us there is still so much to be done.
Think of the Kids
Think of their pressure, think of their pain,
Think of their having garbage for food each day.
The kids get real skinny, then get real fat,
Gasses fill up their stomach just like that.
The gasses pour in until no more can fit,
Then they die and THAT IS IT.
So when you have your food today,
EAT IT or SAVE IT but DON'T throw it away. - Emily Kingston
